my story
I'm Marie Arthur, a Sydney based artist and photographer drawn to the beauty, character and stories found in everyday life.
Through black and white photography, I explore the small details that often go unnoticed ~ moments of connection, contrast, texture and emotion. My work is inspired by a curiosity about people, places and the world around us, and a belief that even the simplest scenes can hold meaning when viewed from a different perspective.
Photography allows me to slow down, observe and create. It is both an artistic expression and a way of seeing.
PHILOSOPHY
I believe photography has the power to help us pause, reflect and see familiar things in a new light.
Working primarily in black and white allows me to strip away distraction and focus on what remains ~ light, shadow, form, emotion and story. Rather than chasing perfection, I’m interested in authenticity, atmosphere and the beauty that already exists around us.
My hope is that each image invites a moment of connection, curiosity or quiet reflection.
